Goodbye 2024
As the year is coming to and end I am taking a few weeks off from social media and be more present with my children. But I wanted to end the year with a post reflecting on the year that has passed. When I grew up NYE was my favorite holiday, saying bye to the old and getting ready for the new felt so exciting to me. I love beginnings, I love starting new things, going to new places, etc. I love the new and ever changing.
One of the best days of 2024
My friend and I traveled to Marrakesh together. A bucket list trip. My absolute favorite day was when we got a day pass to a fancy hotel and hung out by the pool all day. I read, she cooled herself in the water.
For me 2024 has been a tough year emotionally, but also a year of immense growth, self-reflection and authenticity. I decided to share more things online, be more personal and open. I have trusted my intuition more and prioritised my own well being more.
I also took on some projects, like this blog, that I had been thinking of for a while. I published an e-book, I posted YouTube videos, I said yes to different projects.
This year I have attended one hospital birth as a midwife, two amazing Doula births, taught 5 different Hypnobirthing group courses, held two online presentations and one irl about racism in health care, I’ve featured on Bethany’s yoga course, I have taught a short private HB course, I have worked with RFSU on their project highlighting racism in maternal care (I will continue this work next year - I am so excited about this). It’s been a productive year and I hope this continues into the new year.
I want to give a shout out to everyone that has trusted me this year, from the people who have taken my courses, to the people who have needed support in any way and to my Doula families. I don’t take for granted to trust you place in me when you choose to pay me for a service.
During the dark days of this year when I was drowning in depression and anxiety I thought this year was the worst ever. But looking back I realize how many highlights there have been. With friends, with my amazing kids and with our newest family member, Winnie.
So as I say goodbye to 2024, I want to share five things I learned this year:
1) When you have good people in your corner they show up in full force when you need them the most.
2) The only way to get out of the storm is to go through it. My friend Zozo said this to me at the beginning of this year, and it’s been my mantra through the hurricanes that life has thrown at me.
3) Two things can be true at the same time.
4) Healing is hard work, this is why many avoid it. One step at a time, one breath at a time.
5) The same heart can be broken several times by the same person.
